Illusions of Grandeur

20" x 24"

Build a house of cards, towering, complex in construction, and totally grand in its concept.  But touch just one card, anywhere, and the entire structure comes tumbling down.   Choose a stretch of seashore, gleaming with white sand and blue ocean, shaded by the fronds of palm.  Build a resort and an airport. Welcome visitors. Then one day a seaquake, a tsunami, and all that was grand is gone.  Buy some acreage, raise cattle, build a home of sticks and stone.  A great wind comes, tearing through all in its path, and the rancher’s grand dreams are turned to kindling.  Find a wife, build a family.  Isn’t it grand! Then one day, she’s gone.  Oh, the illusions of grandeur.
